Transitioning Into Autumn: The 10 Key Pieces You Need In Your Wardrobe To Get You From One Season To The Next

Hey Guys,

Whether we like it or not, Autumn is knocking on our doors and it’s time we start preparing our wardrobes for it’s coming. Some people dread the thought of Autumn but as for me, I love it. I’m obsessed with dressing for this time of year.

It can be very tricky in the months of September & October because while it’s not warm anymore, it’s still not quite cold enough to pull out the heavy knits and layers either. Because of this, I’ve compiled a list of the 10 pieces I consider to be must have items to bring you from one season into the next with ease. Some of these pieces you will probably find you already have in your wardrobe but it’s just a matter of styling them differently to make them more suited to the autumnal weather.

  1. Good Denim Jeans

Hail, rain or snow, I LIVE in jeans. They’re my go-to comfort bottoms. I’d say I wear some sort of jeans; be it denim or black, five out of the seven days of the week. They’re the one piece of clothing that I don’t mind having multiples of because I know I will always get wear out of them. Day to night, casual to dressy, jeans will literally take you anywhere – so don’t be afraid to spend a bit of money on them. They will end up owing you nothing.

  2. Plain White T-Shirts

Any wardrobe, be it Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter needs plenty of white t-shirts. Round necks, v – necks, square necks – find the neckline that works for you and stick to it. Personally I find v-necks are best on me so I am constantly on the hunt for new ones to add to my collection. A pair of jeans, a white t-shirt and a black blazer will take you anywhere from a lunch meeting to a night out on the tiles with the girls. Get your few staples right and you will always have options in your wardrobe!

If you already have plenty of plain tees then add some slogan ones to your collection for a bit of fun!

 3. Black Blazer

A blazer is another staple that I am a firm believer no wardrobe should be without. As I mentioned above, it only takes a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans to make an outfit. An other great and equally outfit is a LBD with a black blazer thrown over it. So simple, so chic and so versatile!

On a side note, I’m also LOVING coloured blazers this year and seeing as red is a huge colour this season, I think I’ll be investing in a red long-line blazer to feed all my colour craving needs.

  4. Biker Jacket

Similar to a blazer, a biker is pretty much compulsory when planning out your Autumn wardrobe. Be it suede or leather, a biker jacket is the perfect finishing touch to any outfit. From jeans and a tee to over a little tea dress, they add a touch of sass to any outfit.

  5. Breton Stripe Top

If you follow me on Instagram then you will know I have a very deep love for stripes. I’ve always loved stripes but it was only really when I started working in the boutique I’m in now, that my love of stripes intensified. We do a french brand called Armor Lux and last time I checked, I counted 7 versions of the same top. They’re just so chic and easy to wear. You can wear one under your biker/blazer (there I go again) and jeans or dress it up by tucking it into a pleated midi skirt.

  6. The Perfect Teadress

A tea-dress is such a handy transitional piece for this time of year. On an Indian summer day (I’m being hopeful here), you can wear it with bear legs and sandals, grunge it up with ankle boots and a biker or when it get’s colder, add tights and flat knee highs. They are so versatile and are also the perfect day to night piece. I picked up the cutest red polka dot one in Penny’s at the weekend which I’m dying to style this week so keep an eye out for that!

  7. Ankle Boots

I think it goes without saying that a good quality pair of ankle boots are an absolute must when it comes to your winter wardrobe. This year I’m on the hunt for a replacement metallic pair for the ones I wore to death the past two years and an everyday red pair. I’m going to be doing a full post on my must have AW boots in the next week because when it comes to shoes, I can’t seem to narrow down my choices.

  8. Knitwear

Knitwear makes up the majority of my wardrobe in Autumn/Winter. I’m a freezing person so anything that keeps me warm while also making me look good will always get the thumbs up from me. From fine cashmere to chunky cable-knits, I’m a woman obsessed.

  9. Comfy Trainers

Last year we saw Superstars take over but this year it’s all about the revival of the old school black and white vans.

 10. And Something That’s Entirely You..

…because we all can’t be the same!

I hope you enjoyed this post! I’m working on some more in detail AW shopping guides at the moment that should be up in the next few days 🙂

Gotta Dash,

Edel x
